Receiving a standing ovation, Kosminsky used his acceptance speech to shield the independence of the BBC, announcing that the govt is making an attempt to "eviscerate" the agency and Channel four. 

"here's truly scary stuff individuals," the 60-yr-historic said, referring to the proposed govt cuts to the BBC. "no longer anything i thought i'd see in my lifetime in this country.

"It is not their BBC, it's your BBC. There can be no greater Wolf hall, no more groundbreaking Dispatches.

"We may still rise up and battle," he persevered. "If we do not, blink and it will be long past."
